Exciting experiences

The 9th-grade students gained many exciting experiences and interesting insights during their three-week internship, which came to an end just before the Easter break. Here we are publishing three very personal accounts of the experience, written by students in the elective course “Our Website”:

My internship experience at the Lünen City Administration

A report by Nele (9th grade)

I completed my internship in the city of Lünen, in the department “Citizens’ Office and Elections.” On the first day, I mainly observed and got to know my very kind colleagues. By the second day, I was already able to handle everything independently on the computer, such as issuing registration certificates, processing certificates of good conduct, passports, identity cards, and applications for registration or change of address.

During the first week, I was also allowed to work at the service point, where I assisted citizens directly.

One of the nicest moments was realizing that they truly saw me as a colleague and that I was warmly welcomed into the team.

One of the most embarrassing moments was when I had to wait outside the Citizens’ Office because I had forgotten the key I had been given at home. Overall, I found my internship very meaningful because I got to meet many different citizens and experience different perspectives. Sometimes, citizens were not completely satisfied and insulted the team. However, this was nothing new for the staff.

Starting my internship there was definitely worthwhile because you gain many great and funny experiences. In the end, I was very sad to leave this strong and cheerful team. They all hope that I will do my apprenticeship in Lünen, and they told me that if I am ever nearby again, I should definitely come by and say hello.

As a farewell gift, I received a box of Merci chocolates. Coincidentally, I had also brought a box of Merci chocolates for the team. Anyone who can imagine working in an office job with people and citizens should definitely start here.

My Internship Experience in the IT Department of St. Marien Hospital Lünen

A report by Janek (9c)

During my internship, I worked in the IT department of St. Marien Hospital Lünen. The IT department is located opposite the hospital in a red building. IT work is not exactly how many people imagine it to be, because many think that you only sit in front of computer screens all day. In reality, however, you move around a lot because the job also involves replacing and repairing devices.

The IT department is also responsible for backing up the hospital’s computers. Through the KLW alliance (Krankenhaus Lünen-Werne), the IT department also handles IT tasks for the hospital in Werne. During my internship, there were many different activities that I enjoyed, such as creating backups or driving to Werne.

However, there were also less enjoyable tasks, such as tidying up the storage room or sorting and photographing CDs. There were also funny situations: one of them was when a freezer was set up and everyone was allowed to take an ice cream. Together with someone from the IT department, I got ice cream for everyone, and it became funny when the management walked past us while we were carrying six ice creams.

I think it was a meaningful internship because I already spend a lot of time working with PCs in my private life, and I was still able to learn many new things through this experience. I would definitely recommend it because it is a very interesting internship, especially for people who enjoy working with computers.

My Internship Experience at the Hilpert Theatre Lünen

A report by Luisa (9c)

At the Heinz-Hilpert-Theater Lünen, I did many different tasks, such as replacing posters around the city and the theater, as well as conducting research for distributing advertisements in the districts of Brambauer and Lünen-Süd. Some of the less enjoyable tasks were archive work and tidying up the archive.

The nicer experiences, however, were working together with one of my colleagues, when we sometimes chatted while working.

The entire internship was both meaningful and fun. Getting a behind-the-scenes look at a guest-performance theater was really exciting and interesting. Since the theater does not have its own ensemble, artists are either invited or apply themselves. Most of them only arrive on the day of the performance.

The internship helped me understand everything that lies behind the concept of theater. Personally, I would recommend doing an internship there to anyone interested in theater, management, or cultural organization.
