Physics

Physics is the science of the fundamental laws of nature. Accordingly, physics instruction at SLS focuses on the investigation, description, and explanation of a wide variety of natural phenomena. Whenever possible, student experiments form the core of the curriculum. By observing and describing increasingly complex relationships, students can deduce the underlying laws.

In addition to gaining subject-specific knowledge about phenomena in their environment, students thus become familiar with specific scientific questions and methodologies. Furthermore, the subject of physics consistently offers opportunities for concrete connections to the professional world.

In 8th grade, the subject is taught to the entire class. The curriculum covers optics and the fundamentals of electricity.

Starting in 9th grade, physics is taught in ability-grouped E and G courses. The curriculum covers the fundamentals of mechanics and more specialized topics in electricity in 9th grade, as well as radioactivity, nuclear energy, energy, and power in 10th grade. By the end of 10th grade, students should be able to critically engage with socially relevant topics such as energy supply and mobility and use their subject knowledge to form an informed opinion.

Neben dem Fachwissen über die Erscheinungen in ihrer Umwelt lernen die Schülerinnen und Schüler so die speziellen wissenschaftlichen Fragestellungen und Vorgehensweisen kennen. Zusätzlich bietet das Fach Physik auch immer Möglichkeiten zu konkreten Anknüpfungspunkten in die Berufswelt.
Im Schuljahr 8 wird das Fach im Klassenverband unterrichtet. Inhalte sind hier die Optik sowie die Grundlagen der Elektrizitätslehre.
Mit der Jahrgangsstufe 9 wird das Fach Physik leistungsdifferenziert in E- und G-Kursen unterrichtet. Inhalte sind hier die Grundlagen der Mechanik und spezifischere Themen der Elektrizitätslehre in Jahrgang 9 sowie in Jahrgang 10 die Radioaktivität, Kernenergie, Energie und Leistung. Mit Ende der Jahrgangsstufe 10 sollen Schülerinnen und Schüler in der Lage sein, sich kritisch mit gesellschaftlich relevanten Themen wie etwa Energieversorgung und Mobilität auseinander zu setzen und durch ihr Fachwissen Stellung zu beziehen.
