Religion

The subject of Religious Education at the Selma Lagerlöf Secondary School is taught on the basis of the concept of cooperative denominational religious education (KoKoRu).

Our Religious Education lessons are closely connected to students’ everyday lives and aim to engage them with different cultures, religions, and fundamental questions about life. Through discussions about faiths, cultures, traditions, ethical issues, and existential questions, students develop a deeper understanding of the diversity of our society. The Christian component plays a central role in this process. Christian values and traditions form the foundation for many of the topics discussed in class. Values such as compassion, justice, and responsibility are integrated into lessons and help students find orientation in their own lives.

Another important aspect is the promotion of critical thinking. Students are encouraged to form their own opinions, ask questions, and consider different perspectives. They learn to express their views respectfully, accept the opinions of others, and engage in constructive dialogue. This supports both personal development and social interaction while fostering tolerance and mutual respect.

Through projects, discussions, and creative assignments, we ensure that Religious Education remains engaging and relevant to students’ lives. These activities include the Days of Religious Reflection in Year 9, visits to an escape room with a religious theme, and the hospice project.

Close cooperation with local church communities also enriches lessons and school life by providing practical insights into religious life and strengthening the connection between school and community.
