The control group
Statutes of the steering group at the Selma-Lagerlöf-Sekundarschule Selm
Tasks and objectives of the work of the steering group
School and teaching development is the common task of all those involved in school work. The school control group deals with school topics and primarily promotes the development of teaching in the school. It has the task of initiating, coordinating and accompanying certain school development processes at the Selma-Lagerlöf-Sekundarschule Selm (“The steering group controls, the school determines the course.”) Development goals for the work of the steering group can be proposed by itself, by the teachers’ conference and by the school conference. The steering group is bound by a clearly defined mandate and receives its mandate from the teachers’ conference for a fixed period of time. It is more than a coordinating body because it makes decisions during the process and thus promotes initiatives in the school. In order to achieve a high level of effectiveness and acceptance, the steering group designs its work as transparently as possible and oriented towards the broad involvement of the relevant committees. The priority of the topics is agreed at the beginning of a school year and in the semester. The steering group formulates its results and gives the work results to the committees for voting. The steering group evaluates its work at regular intervals.
Composition and size of the control group
The steering group of the Selma-Lageröf-Sekundarschule Selm consists of a maximum of six representatives of the college, who are elected at the teachers’ conference. The composition of the control group may vary, but should remain as constant as possible with a view to sustainable work in their constellation. An additional member is the headmaster, who bears overall responsibility on the basis of his/her tasks (cf. §59 SchulG NRW). She/He plays an advisory role. Other members of the school management will also participate in the meeting as necessary. The work in the steering group is based on voluntariness. The members commit themselves to working in this committee for four school years. When replacing or re-re-simbeding the members, the following selection criteria for the Selma-Lagerlöf-Sekundarschule are taken into account as a building-up system:
1) The members have worked in different school types and systems.
2) The members belong to different student councils and cover as many and the largest possible student councils.
3) The steering group consists of teachers who have been working at the Selma Lageröf secondary school for a long time and new colleagues.
4) The members of the steering group represent the different committees as much as possible, so that an interlocking within the school can be ensured.
The members appointed in the teachers’ conference are entitled to vote. Interested colleagues are cordially invited to actively shape the steering group meetings by prior arrangement.
Distribution of responsibilities
All members of the steering group work together on an equal footing and participate equally in the work processes. Internal communication in the control group requires discretion and confidentiality. The members understand their work as an ongoing discussion process. They take this into account when continuing to work on partial results and only announce results after consultation with the steering group.
Tax Group Spokesperson of the Steering Group
The steering group chooses a spokesperson who presents the results of the steering group in the respective committees and is the contact person for questions and feedback. The spokesperson is also responsible for the flow of information within the steering group and the documentation of the work. She/He is elected by the steering group for the duration of one school year.
School management
The headmaster bears the overall responsibility and assumes an advisory function in the work of the control group. The tasks of the school management include, among other things Examination of the work results and concepts for realization opportunities as well as implementation. In addition, it provides a framework for working conditions (e.g. further training) and relief that favor successful steering group work.
Preparation / organization of meetings
The representative of the steering group discusses appointment proposals with the members of the steering group. For each steering group meeting, there is a change in the record keeping in alphabetical order. The minute-taker of the last meeting invites to the next session and moderates it.
Work shift – meetings
The planning meetings of the steering group take place every two weeks if possible with changing loads (rotation in the timetable).
Documentation of the work
Minutes, invitations, etc. are collected by the spokesperson in a control group folder and also passed on to the steering group members. Important dates and work results are presented in the house announcement. The speaker informs in each teachers’ conference and, if necessary, in other committees about the state of work and results of the steering group. Protocols can be viewed by colleagues in the folder at any time.
Entry into force
These statutes came into fore after the decision of the Teachers’ Conference on 6. November 2018.
